Oversquare Operation
«

After reading a few Pelican's Perch articles (the links posted here about engine operation)- I've begun to wonder about this oversquare operation theory and if it is more efficient or if it makes any sense at all.
Any 182/ 206 drivers out there operate like this or know about the benefits and drawbacks.

Are you talking about operating oversquare during the climb? The normally aspirated 182 or 206 won't make enough MP to get oversquare unless you pull the RPM back...and if you do that you're making less power.
During cruise flight there is no problem with doing it, is an accepted procedure.
In the turbocharged 206 I fly the climb power setting is oversquare...32" and 2600.
